The Middle
School Art program consists of a one-marking-period course in which students at
each grade level will study line, shape, form, color, art criticism, appreciation
and careers. Projects in design, drawing, collage, painting, printmaking
and sculpture will become more complex as the student progresses through
grades six, seven, and eight.
The student will
develop the ability to create two and three dimensional images, utilize
design concepts and begin to understand the relationship between the use
of tools, techniques, materials and the visual statement. They will use
an art vocabulary and begin to observe, analyze and understand visual
expression. They will be made aware of careers in the visual arts. |

Introduction to Technology
|

Introduction to Technology is a one marking period course that will explore the topics of: living in a human designed world, the design loop process, portfolio and prototype construction, careers in technology, and lab experiences in manufacturing, transportation, design, construction, and control technology. Students learn to work in cooperative groups using basic tools and materials, Lab activities require students to collect and organize data, construct prototypes and models; as well as develop and present documentation. The course will preview the high school general technology course.  |

Keyboarding

Computer Keyboarding is an intensive one marking period exploratory arts course in which sixth graders engage in computer keyboard learning, skill development and application. It focuses on developing their ability to become a touch-typist through proper posture, finger position, and techniques in which they learn, as time permits, the alphabet, numbers, symbols, operational keys, correction keys and the numeric keypad. It further develops their skill building for speed and accuracy. Through the lessons, as time permits, students will learn and improved their language skills by reviewing and applying rules for spacing, capitalization, punctuation, and number expression.  |

Music Appreciation

Music Appreciation
is offered as a one-marking-period course. It is divided into several areas designed
to introduce students to various components and styles of music.
The areas include
instruments of the orchestra, the rudiments of music, and an overview
of music history. Music and related careers and multicultural music will
also be examined.
Throughout the course,
students will participate in a variety of hands-on experiences that are
designed to enhance their understanding of these areas.
By the end of the
course students will have had the opportunity to learn and develop skills
that will assist them in enjoying music and making informed decisions about their music and musical listening activities.  |
