WHAT IS WORKERS' COMPENSATION?

Workers' compensation is a statutory benefit in the State of New Jersey. If you are injured in the course of your employment, workers' compensation insurance covers you for medical and lost wages, and you do not need legal assistance to obtain these benefits.

WHO IS COVERED?

All employees, whether full or part time are covered under workers' compensation. The insurance only covers those employees who have sustained an injury while working.

WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE A WORK RELATED INJURY?

Remember, the immediate reporting of any work related injury is the first step in assuring you receive prompt and appropriate benefits. When an employee gets injured on the job, he/she must notify the school nurse and/or supervisor/manager immediately. Keep in mind that delays in reporting can ultimately affect your insurance benefits.

1. An Incident Report form, Employee/Supervisor Report and Employee Authorization for Medical Attention form must be completed. It will then be necessary for the school nurse/supervisor, together with the employee, to contact Consolidated Services Group at 1-877-353-9918. The employee will be assisted by the CSG agent on call in obtaining appropriate medical care. If medical treatment is not necessary the form will be kept on file in Human Resources.

2. In case of an emergency, the employee should go to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. The injured worker or school nurse/supervisor must notify CSG as soon as possible after the treatment is received.

Do not go to your private physician or health care provider. All medical care must first be approved by CSG. If you elect to see your private physician without the approval of CSG, you may be responsible for paying the bill.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Medical Care:

You are entitled to medical care, which will be paid by your employer if you are injured in the course of your employment. If you need prescriptions filled, you can go to any CVS Pharmacy. DO NOT USE YOUR PRESCRIPTION CARDS. If you pay out of pocket expenses, send the receipts along with a copy of the prescription to Human Resources.

LOST WAGES:

You are entitled to wage loss benefits after you have been unable to work for a period of seven days.
