Music

Band

Band is an instrumental music course in which students are offered the opportunity to study music through the performance of woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments. The course is divided into seven units including instrumental technique, music literacy, critical listening, history, ensemble technique, musicianship, and performance etiquette.

In addition to these units, the following behaviors are inherent in the course: regular attendance, self-discipline, effort, attention to detail, pride in ne's work, being a contributing and cooperating member of a group, respect for others and equipment, and proper rehearsal etiquette.

Throughout the course, students will attend daily rehearsals, receive weekly group lessons, attend periodic after-school rehearsals, and have the opportunity to participate in regional honors activities. In addition, students will perform at evening concerts and school assemblies. At the discretion of the director, students may also participate in selected music festivals and community events. 

Chorus

Chorus is a vocal music offering which gives students a performance oriented opportunity to develop musicianship, vocal technique, individual progress, music literacy, and an understanding of choral literature.

In addition to these units, the following behavoirs are integral elements in the course: attendance, effort, working with others, etiquette, following directions, pride in work, self-discipline, respect for others, attention to detail and participation in all concerts and choral programs.

There are a variety of vocal groups in which students may participate, such as mixed chorus (includes all students enrolled in Chorus) and special groups (by audition) such as Girls Ensemble and Show Choir.

Throughout the course students will attend daily rehearsals, receive weekly group lessons, attend periodic after-school rehearsals, have the opportunity to participate in regional activities, perform at school concerts and assemblies, and at the discretion of the director, participate in selected musical festivals. 

Orchestra

Orchestra is an instrumental music course in which students are offered the opportunity to study music through the performance of string instruments. The course is divided into the following units: instrumental technique, ensemble technique, performance practice, critical thinking, theory, history and literature, individual progress, and chamber music.

In addition to these units the following behaviors are integral elements in the course: attendance, effort, working with others, etiquette, following directions, pride in work, self-discipline, respect for others, and attention to detail.

Throughout the course students will attend daily rehearsals, receive weekly lessons, attend periodic after school rehearsals, have the opportunity to participate in regional activities, perform at school concerts and assemblies, and at the discretion of the director, participate in selected musical festivals.
