WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Bunker Hill Middle School sixth-grade Science teacher Julie Lyons wanted to give her students a break from class while simultaneously beautifying the school in honor of Earth Day. She followed through with that on Friday, April 21st, taking her students outside in front of the school where they cleaned up and re-planted two flowerbeds. In addition, members of the school’s Roots & Shoots Club, which Lyons advises, reported to the flowerbeds after school to finish up the process.
After weeding the two beds closest to the school entrance, the students were given flowers to plant. They took turns digging, being careful not to plant too deep or too close to each other. It was a good opportunity to celebrate Mother Earth to celebrate Earth Day, Lyons said.
