WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – The Washington Township Public School District will host “Parents’ Cyber Night II: Preparing the Children of the Future” on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will take place at Orchard Valley Middle School, and is open to all parents from the District’s three middle schools: Orchard Valley, Bunker Hill and Chestnut Ridge.
“Parents’ Cyber Night II: Preparing the Children of the Future” will be the District’s 12th Parents’ Dinner Workshop since 2011. The Parents’ Dinner Workshop series is an ongoing District-wide initiative designed to provide parents with academic resources and strategies to better assist their children at home.
“The mission of the Parents’ Night Dinner Workshop series is to bring families, schools and communities together by focusing on the common goal of improving students’ academic achievement,” said Mrs. Raani Agrawal, the District’s Response to Intervention Coordinator and English Language Arts Interventionist. “The idea is to partner with parents by exposing them to a variety of interesting, interactive and informative workshops in which they can learn more about 21st Century Education and ways to help their children.”
“What makes this upcoming Parents’ Night Dinner Workshop extra special is that it will offer a cyber component to accommodate the needs of busy parents who cannot attend in person,” said Agrawal, who has coordinated each of the District’s 12 Middle Level Parents’ Dinner Workshops. “This means that parents can either attend in person or virtually.”
“Parents’ Cyber Night II: Preparing the Children of the Future” will feature live streaming through YouTube and will allow parents to ask the presenters questions in real time using the Poll Everywhere software application. As long as parents have access to the internet, they can attend the workshop from home by logging onto the District homepage (www.wtps.org), selecting the Orchard Valley Middle School tab, and finding the Parents’ Cyber Night II link in the “Parents” section.
This Wednesday night will feature presentations by three middle school teachers: Mr. Joseph Downey, Ms. Megan Delany, and Ms. Deanna Doyon. Mr. Downey is the English Language Arts Interventionist at Bunker Hill and Chestnut Ridge middle schools. He will be presenting “21st Century Learning Strategies and Apps to Support Middle School Students.” Ms. Delany is the Math Interventionist at Bunker Hill and Chestnut Ridge middle schools. She will present “Stress Free School Year: Mindfulness Strategies for Home and School.” Ms. Doyon is an eighth-grade math teacher at Chestnut Ridge Middle School. She will present “Study Skills, Homework Hassles, and Transition to High School.”
Orchard Valley Middle School is located at 238 Pitman-Downer Road, Sewell, NJ 08080.
