Second Annual "Spring in Service" to Feature Lantern Project
In conjunction with Washington Township High School’s annual Senior Service Day on June 2nd, when hundreds of members of the WTHS Class of 2017 fan out in the schools and community in the spirit of community service, the District also will launch its Second annual “Spring in Service.” “Spring in Service” pairs approximately 100 WTHS seniors with 500 elementary students in grades 1-5 throughout the District. The groups will work jointly on a service project -this year, the Lantern Project. The project is being sponsored Kennedy Health and hosted by the WTHS Changing Our World Project.
In the morning hours on June 2nd, high school students will assist elementary students, who have donated $10 to participate, in the creation of a small mason jar glass lantern. The students will decorate the outside of lantern with colored paper and beads, and a battery-operated light will illuminate the creation. The lanterns will be individually bubble-wrapped for the students to transport them home.
All monies from the Lantern Project will be donated to families of several children in need in the District.
