Members of the Washington Township Board of Education recognized Orchard Valley Middle School seventh-grader Morgan Velykis, a student in teacher Linda Wienckowski’s class, who was selected as a finalist in the WHYY-TV “WHYY I like This Book” Contest. Velykis was recognized from more than 1,500 entries for her interpretation of Elizabeth Cobbs’ book The Hamilton Affair. Her 30-second spot on the book is currently airing on WHYY-TV.
“Morgan is a young woman who has a quiet strength about herself,” OVMS principal Colleen McLaughlin said in introducing her to the Board of Education. “She has a compassion for others and a great love of writing. Those of us who know Morgan can clearly understand why she was chosen as a finalist and was filmed for a 30-second clip about herself and the book she read. She is our own personal television star. I have no doubt that Morgan will achieve her dream and become an author one day. We congratulate her for this remarkable honor.”
