WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Edcamp is coming to Washington Township, with “Edcamp Happy Camper” taking place on Saturday, May 13, 2017, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the 9/10 cafeteria at Washington Township High School.
Edcamp Happy Camper is open to all teachers, administrators, board of education members, educational aides, college professors, and college students who are hoping to enter the educational field. This event is not just for Washington Township employees.
Since the original Edcamp in Philadelphia in 2010, there have been more than 700 conferences around the world in 25 countries. Edcamps are tremendously popular “unconferences,” and happen across the U.S. and the world almost every week. Each Edcamp is independently organized and hosted, is always free to participants, and brings together passionate educators for a day of learning and growth.
Often held on Saturdays, an Edcamp is participant-driven with the sessions suggested, developed and facilitated by the educators who are attending. There are never predetermined sessions – a session board is created on the spot based on the interests of those who happen to be there that day.
At Edcamp Happy Camper, the day will start with free breakfast for all and some time to mingle, settle in, and learn about the day. Then, there will be four time slots with 12 sessions being offered in different rooms of the 9/10 building. During the day, attendees are encouraged to attend the sessions that most interest them and to find and choose their own professional development. There will be a break for lunch, which also is provided free to all participants, and after the last session there will be time to come back together in the cafeteria for closing events and prize giveaways.
“All are welcome, and the conversations of the day are best enhanced when educators from all over convene, collaborate and share ideas,” said WTPS Technology Integration Specialist Kathi Kersznowski, who is organizing the Edcamp. “We already have educators from all over New Jersey and some surrounding states who are planning to attend. This is a big opportunity for Washington Township. It will be a great day of food, friends, chatting, learning, mingling, networking, sharing, brainstorming ... and maybe a final gathering 'round a virtual campfire for some great prize giveaways!”
