Guidelines As you read each month's selection you may want to consider the following, as well as
note any questions not covered here:
What is the theme of the book?
Is the period in which the book is set important to the theme? Why?
Is the theme of the book related to the protagonist's gender?
What makes the book distinctive?
Are there any subplots? Are they believable/interesting?
Did the author leave loose ends?
Was the motivation of the characters clear?
How is the book structured? Is it told as a flashback, or is it a straight-ahead
narrative?
How are imagery and symbolism used?
How does the title relate to the book's meaning?
Would the book make a good movie?
What emotional affect did the book have on you?
Could you see a sequel to this book?
